Jewelry Care
All Mana Made jewelry is hand crafted using recycled metals with a focus on sustainability and responsible production.
Recycled Metals: All brass, silver, and gold used in all pieces are ethically sourced from US based suppliers that use recycled metals.
Unique One-of-a-Kind Finishes: The nature of the handmade fabrication process slight variations.
Metal Specific Wear & Care:
Brass
All brass pieces are made from recycled copper and zinc and certified lead and nickel free. Brass will naturally develop a patina over time. While most brass wearers embrace the unique character and color the jewelry will take on, some prefer to keep brass pieces shiny and remove the patina by cleaning it with a polishing cloth.
Brass is the most affordable metal option to purchase your pieces in. We offer all pieces in a brass option for this reason. Consider it a higher maintenance lower cost option. It’s the metal that needs a little more care (will need to be cleaned and polished more often than fine jewelry) but a great alternative to the price of solid gold.
Brass Care: Each brass piece comes with a polishing cloth to help keep it clean and shiny. To help prevent natural tarnish, we recommend keeping jewelry in a dry environment, ideally sealed in a bag to prevent oxidation. If your piece does tarnish and is in need of a heavier cleaning, there are a few natural ways to clean tarnish. Our preferred method is to soak it in distilled white vinegar for a few minutes to remove the oxidation, rinse with water, and dry with a soft cloth.
Sterling Silver
A solid precious metal comprised of 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper and certified lead and nickel free. Like brass, it darkens with time, but can be polished up.
Silver Care: Each silver piece comes with a polishing cloth to help keep it clean and shiny.
Gold Plated
14K yellow gold plate over recycled brass. We use a is a high quality thick (2.5 microns) gold plating. (This is not the flash-gold plating that will rub off easily – we stand by our plating. With normal wear and proper care, we guarantee your piece will stay gold!)
Gold Plated Care: Polishing cloths and solutions should not be used on gold plated pieces as they will damage the finish over time. To clean these pieces use only a damp, soft cloth.
Gold-Fill
A thick layer of solid 14K gold bonded to a brass center. The heat bonding process is tarnish resistant and will not rub off over time. A cost-effective alternative to solid gold.
Gold Fill Care: Each gold fill piece comes with a polishing cloth to help keep it clean and shiny. (Our favorite is a sunshine cloth, a sample of which is included with each piece.)
